I'm always baffled when people talk about needing to save up a few hundred dollars. I could understand if they mean trying to save extra so the purchase won't affect their actual savings but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Who the frick has trouble sparing $400 for a once in a console generation purchase.

PC gaming will always be for teens and nerds. No normal person is going to have a special gaming corner of their room with a special (giant) box and special screen just for playing vidya. Regular people want something they can play on their TV while reclining on the couch.
Consoles are going nowhere. If it helps with the cope, modern consoles are basically PCs with a TV-friendly UI anyway.
