Soulsike, which has no real definition, is also a tag on Steam, same with "immersive sim" and Metroidvania (Castlevania wasn't like Metroid until SOTN, the correct term should be "Metroidlike"). Also the correct term should be "retro shooter"
Words are basically pointless. We know what souls is and we know what a souls clone feels like but it has no definition. Same thing with what is a woman.

I wanted to post a snarky, pedantic explanation of why Castlevania added distinctive qualities to the mix -- making "Metroidvania" a better term -- but I'm coming up empty.
Technically Metroid wasn't even the first metroidvania, with Brain Breaker and Xandu coming out in 1985, though Jet Set Willy came out in 1984, leading some to dub the genre "willyvania".
