I remember I tried to emulate when it was first translated but the gimmick where you score combo hits synced with the fight music didn't work and it was just sort of accepted as an emulator thing. Has science fixed this yet?

It's a pretty meh Dragon Quest clone carried by it's charming art and dialogue. 1 is even worse.
I'm surprised how they managed to completely overhaul it for 3 without making it feel like a different game. Brownie Brown were experts.
