The media really has taken an L in the last few years. Back in the day, the media was all-powerful. Walter Cronkite singlehandedly turned the public against the war in Vietnam with a single broadcast, Woodward and Bernstein ended Nixon's presidency, and 1 op-ed about "malaise" crippled Carter and defined Reagan's successes in the following decade.
The cracks did start to show after the media dutifully carried water for Bush in Iraq, and their weird shift to focusing on social issues after the financial crisis. Trump was the shot across the bow, where they organized a unified campaign against him and people... Didn't care?
Then with COVID they tried to install narrative.exe and plenty of people just willfully ignored the media. Now they are desperate, and trying to run the same tired playbook but it just isn't working, and even their political followers are finding it embarrassing.
In conclusion, frick Jannies, frick journ*lists, everything is a spook

True, they failed enormously. But it's not just because they're agendaposting. Trump was and is objectively an inept r-slur. No wall, no China trade deal, no reelection, relegated to Mar-a-Lago with his Z-string team of sycophants. The likes of Rex Tillerson and Jim Mattis won't join a second administration. Even his self-coup failed hilariously, his r-slurs responding to "FIGHT!" by milling about aimlessly and then going home when one inept Capitol Police officer shot a single MAGAtard in the head. His one genuinely impressive, unambiguous success, producing a Big Beautiful Vaccine in record time, somehow became an albatross for his base. It's not just leftoids noticing his tremendous inability; Ann Coulter has been screeching about Trump's constant failures for years. His reaction to BLM riots was to tweet "LAW AND ORDER!!!!" and then go back to eating a hamberder. So how the frick did the media lose?
Simple: they've gotten dumber over time. There's really a huge gap between journ*lists of yesteryear and journ*lists today. Back in the 60s and 70s, if a journ*list agendaposted at you, there's a good chance he was smart (or at least not stupid) and therefore a good chance that he had a point. A significant fraction of people now working as MBAs or software developers might have been journ*lists back then. The pay was never amazing, but it was enough to buy a home and feed a family. But by the early 2000s, it was rapidly becoming the domain of failsons and Twitter harpies with trust funds. The best journ*lists of this era were almost picaresques like Russel Crowe's character in State of Play, or (for a real-world example) Charlie LeDuff. Oddball guys who would do the job for any amount. But by 2010 that was all over. Wages were genuinely unlivable even for slovenly bachelors. Vice required in-office work in Manhattan on a salary of like $24k. Normal people with brains were literally financially ineligible.
I won't just longpost at you. I'll give you an example. Here's a 1996 article about why people hate the media. Notice the enormous gulf in quality between this and what is posted in The Atlantic today. But I did recently read something similar in terms of depth and level of thought. It was this leaked Google memo about the market conditions for LLMs.
Back before journ*lism wages dried up and software became the default line of work for 115 IQ Americans, many of them wound up as journ*lists. Now it's all just Brooklyn hipsters who couldn't follow daddy into law school or investment banking.

Journ*lists didn't lose, they want 4 more years of Trump because they are more loyal to their own pockets than they are to their country and are dumb enough to think he won't extrajudicial them when the time comes.
Trump is really good for two things: ratings and America's enemies.

Trump spent 4 years doing absolutely nothing and then proceeded to watch the political establishment spread their cheeks and lay a stinker on his head. It's hilarious that anyone would think he has the power to extrajudicial anybody.

Well said. Also could be mentioned that people don't like to constantly be lectured- and with ai and cancel shit and disingenous agenda journ*lism so prevalent today, it's a never ending drone of being told you're bad, you're wrong, you're racist etc ad nauseum
Journ*lism today gives that way of thinking a voice. I don't even know how we could go back.

All twitter did was stop banning people just for having an opinion. Once the journaloids finished having their nationwide freakout session over this terrible crime they remembered they have a block button and that it literally doesnt matter if hitlersneed1488 calls them a brainlet or whatever. At least it's kind of fun again.

This is only half true. Check out the comments on any article on The Hill (which is a pretty middle of the road website much like politico but with dumber articles). The commenters are a pretty equal left/right split but they are 100% all r-slurs and their arguments are not interesting at all. They might be worse than daily mail commenters because every argument is just a dozens of posts circlejerk where they rehash the same tired shit over and over.

G*mergate was a false flag against the g*mer movement.
Feminists (such as sarkeesian) had targeted g*mers as their new victim. They were getting torn apart in YouTube videos and recruiting for anti feminist movements was at its peak. G*mergate shifted the whole conversation from dumb women making strawmen against gaming to men attacking a woman involved in gaming.
G*mergate saved feminism.

G*mergate itself was nothing but a meaningless affair between dipshit online nerds. But at the time the lines for the great culture war had been drawn and the two sides were pretty much waiting for someone to shoot Franz Ferdinand. The truth is the culture warriors had always existed online but they were relegated to the far corners of the internet since they weren't taken seriously in the political environment at the time. Even in those places they often had to congregate in specific areas because the regulars of those sites were usually very annoyed by political infighting.
The actual seeds of the great culture war were sown by social media, which allowed the aforementioned internet subcultures to bleed over into mainstream consciousness, and eventually there was a generation of people whose political opinions were shaped by that online discourse. So some kind of G*merGate was always bound to happen, even if Zoe Quinn never existed it wouldn't have changed much in the long run.

Mostly it died out pretty quickly after some memes on 4chan. It kept going as the media kept moralizing over and over about it. Kind of like how they never shut up about trump in 2016 and people voted him in for the lulz and the journos that constanly sneeded on the daily cried in public

Yes, and they switched from fighting the people that were calling them evil to a journ*list that.... had s*x with someone? It doesn't make sense. Your argument doesn't support your idea.
G*mergate changed the optics so that the anti feminist movement could easily be attacked by those journ*lists.
