It's probably one of the best colony sim games, imo. It's a lot like Dwarf Fortress, but is also very different. Rimworld has a sci-fi setting and is geared towards smaller colonies (like 20 people at most). The rimworld colonists are much more noticeably individual, with traits that influence their productivity, mood, relationships, occupation, passions, etc. As such, the game is way more about the colonists themselves and managing them as individuals so that they aren't having a nervous breakdown and setting everything on fire or talking incredible shit at anyone in sight. Ostensibly, the goal of the game is to take the 3 colonists you crash land on a rimworld with and have them build a ship to escape the planet.

Mechanically, it plays pretty much like dwarf fortress. One noticeable difference is a lack of elevation (can't build up or down)
