I personally not a fan of dragon quest but I do think it's kinda cool how pick they romanticise Europe (and some way Arab) countries cultures. Like the game has cities themed on x countries of Europe where people using names and words from that x country. Western devs somehow don't touch their own culture and mythology, I can understand now why they don't do it but 10+ years ago they also didn't do it. Like why Frogs didn't made a Jane D'arc game ?
But back to dragon quest 12, that game was supposed to be like dragon quest version of ff16 dark and cool so western gaymercels enjoy, obviously bad idea since it's 2nd biggest jap game after Pokémon. So like they say if you chase 2 rabbits you end up without rabbit.
DQ games are mostly famous for simple story with some twist and very polish gaymplay in mostly go happy atmosphere so making it dark and edgy… I mean I would like it but it probably not what fans wants.
Yosuke Saito, best known for his role as the producer for the immensely popular NieR games, was mentioned as a strong candidate to take the helm of the Dragon Quest series' production.
That neighbor worked on Nier 1 (flop) DQ10 (mmo) Nier 2 (sales good for AA game), Nier mobile (flop), Babylon fall (flop), voice of cards (gigaaaa indie gaym)
So giving him lead over DQ12 probably not such bright idea
