What's the actual draw for this game? It's obviously some mishmash of slop IPs, and I can't imagine the combat is particularly enticing. Is the story really good or something? Is it really just popular bc it has like disney princesses and shit in it?

KH1 is honestly really charming if you grew up on Disney and ever played a PS1 FF game. KH2 gets r-slurred but it perfects the gameplay and keeps most of the charm.
KH3 is dogshit. It has no direction, abandons the FF characters, wastes the Disney worlds and then crams the most concentrated dose of Nomuraslop you've ever seen into the last 2-3 hours. Frick that piece of shit. !g*mers
Probably the most accurate summary without going into the decade long period between KH2 and KH3 where like 5 different side games, all plot-relevant, were created across every different contemporary handheld platform available at the time of release leading into the aforementioned KH3 r-sluration nomuraslop.
The gameplay was actually pretty comfy when I was a kid. I remember playing kingdom hearts 2 with my brother, and I was on his story while he played my story.
I don't remember much of a theme (except the music) to these games but they were pretty much exactly like other ps2 games of the time.
Kh3 had really cool gameplay imo though it took adding actually good bosses in dlc, disabling the ADHD nonsense abilities and like 3 different difficulty tweaking updates. The difficulty modificator things were also a cool addition
If you start with the first game, it's a silly but charming JRPG where the gimmick is every zone is based on a Disney movie. The story isn't fancy, but it's still got characters and themes with a relationship to real life (See my neurodivergent analysis).
The later games just kind of pile garbage on top of that until there's no point trying to keep up with the story or characters. At least 2 and 3 have fun postgame bosses on the top difficulty. Other then that, you get to press the action button and watch flashy stuff happen, which tickles the lizard brain the same way casino games or lootboxes do.

What are your thoughts about the theme and gameplay of kingdom hearts 1 and 2? I heard you have a lot to say on these matters.

The skrillex one wasn't too bad. The video matched the trailer well. None do compare to simple and clean though
