smash probably helped keep the series alive as it made people know it was a thing but the 3DS dating game made it a weeby waifu fricking sim, at least awakening did

Smash brought it to the west and got us the GBA versions but sales had been bad and Awakening was going to be the final game. That is why they threw all the past game mechanics like children inheriting stats which came from one of the SNES games.
