i can't stop playing zomboid and it's kind of ruining my (gaming) life.
i recently got a game called CRSYTAL PROJECT. an open world turned based RPG where basically the entire focus is exploring, leveling up, and getting better loot with a light story and THAT'S SO FRICKING PERFECT. the handful of hours i played i really enjoyed but...zomboid. i keep playing zomboid. i keep starting a new character/world, playing a handful of hours, finding a new mod from a random youtube video and starting all over again. just endlessly. never staying on one character/world long enough to really do anything. i'm about to do the same thing again cause i saw a water world mod that looks awesome.
not to mention the two elder scrolls rip off (yanno first person + open world + go/do whatever) games i got earlier in the year that i've also barely played. TAINTED GRAIL and DREAD DELUSION. 2 other games that would also be worth looking at.

I started dread delusion and it's everything I imagined it to be and more. No quest arrows or even a minimap though, you can find a compass but you have to pull it out to use it and you can unlock a map to access via inventory but you have to chart it out yourself by finding landmarks and logging them so navigation is a bit of a nightmare but I'm getting the hang of it.
Gorgeous game, lots of ambience and cool worldbuilding. No boring forced dialog and cutscenes but there's a lot of dialog and books and stuff for that worldbuilding which you have to voluntary engage with to get. Combat is hilariously easy but you're meant to try to avoid combat and given a lot of cowtools to do so. But everything drops something and they go down super easy so I see no reason to avoid it.
Don't think I'd recommend it to you given that the exploration is nice but it's driven by the world which requires a decent bit reading and exploring dialog options just for fun.
