I still think they'll bring it back as a free to play with ridiculous levels of microtransactions. Even if they do no further development that'd basically be free money to offset the losses.

No way. It flopped so hard that even 20x the player count would have been a flop. If they released it free to play it would get a big surge of players for like 48 hours tops for the memes and then immediately flop again.
