If you want the PlayStation and can afford to buy one, go for it.
VR tech as it is now though isn't going to take off. Connectivity to the device is either through spotty wireless signals or bulky cables (I don't know which type the Sony set up uses and I don't care) and playing games that use the technology is almost a workout. Now don't get me wrong, working out is great, just not when you're trying to relax. Plus you're likely to sweat up all the equipment as you play.
For $2000+ you can get your self a monster gaming PC that will provide a better variety of experiences through Steam anyway.
