I haven't played any of these stratestrag games but I've always been interested
They just seem so complicated/intimidating to get into

Stellaris is prob one of the easier 4x's to get into but if that's too much you can try Civ5 or Endless Space 2. The draw of these is you can put the computer opponents on easy while you're figuring out the game and it's still fun

I have actually played several dozen hours of civ5 several years ago, so I guess I'm not a complete virgin I figured civ was googoo gaga baby crap compared to paradox games or whatever so i didn't think it was relevant

CIv and paradox aren't in the same genre, except stellaris, but stellaris is about the same as civ, build queue is just on a day passed timer instead of turns passed.

Paradox games are entry level autism compared to some of the stuff out there in the PC wargaming world. Civ actually has a pretty comparable amount of gameplay depth to some of the Paradox games

Stalearis is Paradoxes failed attempt to make a 4X like Civ and then forgot that and kept bolting mechanics to it that dont fit.

it's all relative, Civ1-5 are all still pretty deep cuts (ascending nerdness levels by game) for normies. Any strategy nerd would scoff at you but they are fun games to frick around in they have to admit. There is some serious strategy involved in beating the higher levels and scenarios, even if it is trying to mitigate the computer being able to cheat

I promise you grand strategy games are less complicated than the nerds make them seem. Yeah, certain mechanics are a bit neurodivergent, but the base gameplay is not ridiculous.

Paradox games are actually super simple, it's a lot of mechanics, not in-depth mechanics.
