G*mers have Bad taste who would have thunk. The fact Silent Hill 2, which is the critical darling, was remade before 1 showed how money grubbing this whole idea was. When I saw that in the remake the pyramid head chase had the camera still pointing foreword the whole time when the OG had it facing pyramid head to make the chase more intense I knew the game was just a shallow rehash with "modern controls" regardless of how it impacts the impact of certain scenes because if a game doesn't play the exact same way as every other game its bad. Shit just has the same control scheme as Homecoming which was dogshit, while the originals control way better. Plus they censored Maria and made a joke about it which shows how seriously they take the original story of game. Being accurate only matters when its politically correct.
Pretty much every game which doesn't have a controversy or isn't totally broken at launch gets a positive rating on steam, and I best most people who are playing this have not played the OG because emulation is scary. Like I played RE4 remake and it was fine. The new combat mechanics were neat, but man imagine if these mechanics were in a new game with new set pieces and environments rather then ones I already recognize. I wanna play a new game not a slight remix of a game ive already played 5 times. Same with Dead Space remake. Yeah the remake is better then the OG in nearly every way, but is a game going from an 8/10 to a 9/10 really the best use of a massive dev budget and a use of my own money and time? I don't think so. And dont get me started on the padded, boring, r-slurred, comic book as retcon multiverse fest that was ff7 remake.
Whats the most disgusting about this game is the marketing and gaming press acting like these remakes are "preservation" or the first way to play these games on modern platforms when this is not preservation as this is not Silent hill 2. If you play this game you are playing the silent hill 2 remake, not the original no matter how much marketers try to spin it as such. If you have a ps5 or xbox series X sell it and save up for a even a mid spec PC or Steam Deck so you can actually play silent hill 2 remake rather then the artistic equivalent of Gus Van Sant's Psycho.
You sat down and wrote all this shit. You could have done so many other things with your life. What happened to your life that made you decide writing novels of bullshit here was the best option?
This is an r-slured take and its strange because your takes are usually at least solid. The vast majority of g*mers don't play games that look like shit. That's the entire reason to remake games outside of money grabs. Now, shit is relative to most people but I've brought up this argument to 'normie' g*mers before and they all seem to agree. In fact, imagine BG3 looking like BG2 and vice versa. I'd bet you ten thousand marsey coins that suddenly BG3 wouldn't be a big hit.
I do agree that people don't want to actually play old games and the barrier to entry, despite being as shallow as googling console X + emulator, is actually enough to make the average g*mer shun even their most desired game. Unless you can open steam, give the fat frick gaben 60 sheckles and press play, the game will simply not be played. This isn't just limited to games: movies, books, basically anything that's too old will just not be consumed - and in most cases that's actually correct. I mean we have limited time and many (if not all) gaming genres are better now than ever.
If a remake makes even a fraction of the player base check out the old game I am all for it. Besides all of this, I don't even think the new game is bad at all.
Silent Hill 2 fans are annoying and pretentious c*nts who deserve this kinda shit remake. To me, graphically Sh2 remake just looks like every other UE5 game while the original still holds up pretty well, its not as good looking as SH3, but that's one of the best looking games on the platform so its a tough hurdle to hop.
Like watching SH2 glazing go from "its all bad on purpose" to an over the shoulder camera and souls i frames and homecoming melee combos in the remake are actually objectively better is just
LMAO
Guess yall really loved sh2 didn't ya. Every aspect of its design was so artistic and perfect that some hack studio just forcing into the "modern triple A game" box is """objectively better"".
It truly was the best horror game of all time.
💀
When I watch any footage of the SH2 remake the "bloober original" shit sticks out like a sore thumb because its just the most on the nose, generic horror slop ever:
And no Zoomers wont play the OG because of this. They will just pretend they did cause of a video essay and because they spent 70$ for this remake like the shmucks they are.
I played a bit of it idk it just seems to suffer from the problem alot of these types of games do. They moderately improve the combat over the original but greatly expand the amount of combat which makes it overall more fatiguing to play I just do not care about SH2 or slightly improved homecoming game play enough to put up with all this padding. After FF7 Remake im done with modern triple A padding where the game is just constantly wasting your time with slow block pushing or squeezy crawly slidly bits. Its like NMH2 and 3 have deeper and better combat then 1 but they spam so many enemies that it becomes super annoying and boring fast same with Nier ps3 to Nier replicant. I just do not like the dodge/melee focus esp with how enemies and James have attack magnetism which makes avoiding combat far harder then it should be. Silent Hill 2 had a far worse camera then 1 and 3 but it still had some cool shots which is why its disappointing to me the game is entirely TPS. Idk why they couldn't have kept the fixed camera in areas where it was good (like the pyramid head chase). I much prefer how 3 handles resource management and SH2 story is the kinda thing which is cool when you play it but doesnt have much going on once you "get it".

I'm personally kind of sad they didn't remake 1 first. The only time I played Silent Hill (I don't remember which one) was when I was a kid and I didn't manage to progress past the very beginning of the game - I was in a foggy town and couldn't find where I was supposed to go. I feel like I missed out on the serie and would like to play all three in serial order on PC.
The first Silent Hill really isn't much to talk about; guy loses daughter and goes to spooky town to find her and fights monsters. From Konami's perspective it makes sense to remake the most popular Silent Hill game in an attempt to revive the series.

And it was funny that the dead space remake inserted in lines about capitalism being le hecking evil. EA says trans rights!
But they also had to put in gender neutral bathrooms in the spaceship because capitalism's cultural opinions are actually awesome

I'm pissed that this is actually good. I wanted to dunk on Bloober Team.
It's not a one-to-one imitation but it's pretty close with some quite bumpy bits.

That there were plans for a 3+4 remake and they just straight up canceled it was a fricking travesty

I routinely googled for any announcements about that for like 2 years before it was announced that Activision or whoever had cancelled it entirely
I don't remember 4 at all, but 3 was goated, tossup between that and THUG.

Have any of you seen the "audience-driven" Silent Hill cartoon, Silent Hill: Ascension?
https://silenthill.fandom.com/wiki/Silent_Hill:_Ascension
https://tubitv.com/series/300001825/silent-hill-ascension
The concept behind it absolutely oozes potential, but I've heard that the show itself is downright terrible.
