lots of incredibly talented people just lost their jobs and years of their hard work and effort is gone forever because a bunch of lame dorks couldn't get over characters with prononuns and iffy, boring designs.

Eh, it failed because it entered a crowded market with nothing new to offer, while all other major players have games well differentiated games and established fanbases. The game was fricked from the design stage. No amount of paint was going to save it. The character design didn't help, but unless they went with some coomer designs (like hoyoslop games) it would never actually sell the game.
