Valkyrie of Phantasm review

since I report every touhou post in anime as "h/vidya" I might as well talk about a 2hu game here.

Valkyrie of Phantasm is a 3d flighting fighting game kinda like the dbz budokai games but a bit more simple.

its in early access so some my my complaints will probably be fixed.

you should buy this game if

1: you are a touhou fan in general

2: you like dbz budokai or any of the fighing/shooting games where you can fly around

you shouldnt buy this game if

1: you have a low end pc because it runs a little shitty ngl

2: you want a traditional fighting game with lots of combos

I enjoy VoP because I loved the budokai games and its nice to have something like that with online multiplayer. the game plays similar to budokai but with most of the combos removed instead you have 3 "spells" which are bound to 3 different buttons (btw this is a controller game its on pc but use a controller) also you have a dodge in the right trigger this is where most of the skill comes in as you get more points towards your powered up form is you dodge threw projectile attacks and "graze" them also activating this powered up form can take you out of combos. this game is in early access so at the moment there are only 4 characters reimu , marrisa , Youmu (who btw is op) , and patchouli (why patchouli who even likes her) but the roster is going to grow as the game leaves EA . some people are saying it has bad netcode but that actually isn't true whats going on is that theres no region locking, you cant see pings, lots of japs because its a touhou game the end result of this is you fighting Japanize players and not knowing it and thinking the game has bad netcode. I recommend putting your region in your name so people realize where your from for example "DownwardSpiral [NA]" . balance wise melee spam is op. another problem that I didn't expect from a touhou game BORING and GENERIC music I dont know why but this game has no music from the bullet heck games just turn the music off and play any of the touhou themes in your browser or something.

if you liked the dbz budokai games or simular games you will probably like this but if you didnt you probably wont

1 more complaint. The game calls fantasy seal "dream seal" and this pisses me off more than it should. Also the scifi metallic floughty bits make everyone look like a yugioh boss monster and I mean that in the worst way.

@BeauBiden cino isnt in the game yet

ATOM rpg is unironically the best game of the last 5 years

Great fallout(1/2)-like, good writing, some baby eating and brutally punishing combat.

Old article but funny esp the part where they say gays are poor manbabies :marseybeggar::marsoyhype:

“The fantastic color schemes and customization options are definitely more attractive than the drab Xbox and Playstation options,” Brian Kunde, culture and operations manager at GaymerX, a nonprofit organization that supports LGBTQ people in gaming, tells NewNowNext. “But more important than that, the console is affordable and Nintendo has a reputation for solid hardware. Queer folks are more likely to have limited means for a variety of reasons, so we want our gaming hardware to be a good investment.”

Victoria 3 currently has a 65% positive review score on Steam, the second lowest of a major recentish Paradox game (after Imperator: Rome) and its continuing to drop.

Generally, the negative reviews focus on:

  • bad economy system (Victoria II was unique since it was very simulationist, with pops building their own buildings, in Victoria 3, the player has to build every single building in their empire)

  • bad warfare system (they removed all micro, literally press attack button)

  • other complaints about political, diplomatic, etc. systems

  • complaints about lack of national flavor (only thing I disagree on, flavor is a crutch for inflexible and weak game systems)

  • complaints about bugs, etc.

I honestly don't think any of the fanboys read them.

You aren't funny. 100% unironically keep yourself safe.

"I have a problem with this game" you're lying and a troll. blocked

:marseyhmm:

The problem here is people are not leaving constructive reviews, but instead review bombing on purpose because they are in communities which have dedicated obscene amounts of time to hating on this game before it even came out.

Why would they review bomb this game but not others?

What exactly triggered the hate, I get that they made big design changes (I have started calling it "Gosplan 1836" but as a term of endearment), but normally troll armies have some kind of political agenda. Was it just the war system???

That it's a bad game.

The game in true paradox fashion has a bright future ahead but the release state is sub par [...]

The negative reviews are mostly focused on core game systems. Not a great starting place for a future.

Probably couldn't handle the learning curve

More difficult Paradox games have worse reviews.

The game is fricking great.

Youtubers pooping on it:

Lol

Note that people like me read that dev diaries saw this coming from a mile away. Everyone in the PDX modding community I am in has been pooping on Victoria 3 for months.

Honestly not sure who this game is for. The Paradox community tends to be split between simulationist and gamey/memey sides. The simulationists are upset about the complex economic system of Victoria II being dumbed down and the memelords are upset about there being no skill in combat. I think this might go down the Imperator: Rome route and die after a few updates when the game can't retain players.

Takeaway (:soyconsoomer: -> :marseylibright:)

One of the great things about chadpitalism is that so long as the market is competitive or the good is price or income elastic (aka a luxury the purchaser doesn't need to buy) and the relevant information is known, the consumer is always at fault for their shitty purchases. If you pre-ordered this game or bought in on release before checking reviews you deserved the result. If you are defending this game because criticism is triggers you, the only person you have to blame is yourself. Paradox can't make garbage games when people aren't willing to buy them. Take responsibility. Consider where you are putting your money.

There's an obscure SMT fan project with godly music :marseyjamming:

The Persona 5 Imagining Project was created near a decade ago before the release trailer of Persona 5 by Atlus by the end of the 2010s. It was a fan project where they would speculate on what the theme and music style they would use in the OST. The projects conception was a more mature setting of college students and accompanied with a stylish OST with inspiration from Jamiroquai and other artists.

This isn't original music mind you but a curated compilation made into a soundtrack for AtlusxP5's idea of his own Persona 5. There's some obscure artists there I really enjoyed hunting down their albums :marseyjamming: Most are Japanese and finding their albums has been a b-word lol

AtlusxP5 has his own channel but its only rarely updated:

https://youtube.com/user/ATLUSxP5/about

Various channels have their own archives of the fan OST as well:

A tumblr fan blog with a more indepth look into the project too for anyone interested:

I hope people enjoy this music and their artists as much as I do :marseyembrace:

I personally don't think we will ever see a game like Lisa the Painful ever again

It really pushed the envelope on what you can put in a game without it getting banned. It's like the perfect example of late 2000s early 2010s "edgy" humor that is actually really funny, while also telling a really good but fricked up story.

Any thoughts by the dramatard who have actually played this game?

They should make a stellaris MMO

It's an MMO but it's all set in the exact same shared galactic map based on the real world map of the galaxy. You can choose any random free available star in the galactic map and set up your civilization starting point on one of the planets around that star. Generally the game will give you a recommendation and quick help tutorial to help set up your empire in a part of the galaxy that is closer to your starting level.

The big players literally can't spawn kill because your empire can spawn anywhere all over the galaxy when you start a new game empire.

You still retain the same gameplay style and events and tech as stellaris base game but now event frequency goes way further up to account for their being hundreds of thousands to millions of players on the same map.

You could end up with these huge butt empires whose only goal is to work in federations to conquer the entire galaxy. Randomly you would have huge game changing events that have to be survived or one must hide from.

You could have a more expansive tech tree with empires that only research how to hide themselves from everybody else or how to lock out everyone from their own sector of space.

You could even have sub light travel but it is 10x slower than normal travel.

Every 1 minute a month passes in game. The clock is always ticking and you have an AI copy that is based on your style of play which evolves as you keep playing, so when you are AFK or doing other real life stuff instead of playing it takes command and continues playing based on the expectation of how you would play the game. You can also give it instructions for what areas to try and focus on and how to set up the defenses and react to others and stuff for the next 8-16 hours while you are away.

Real world AI will likely be good enough to do all this stuff in another 10 years.

So what do ya think?
