Is it progressive to wear, or not wear, a hijab?

Leftoids can't seem to come to an agreement whether wearing a hijab is a freeing, liberal expression of progressive feminism or representative of an oppressive, patriarchal society that stifles female independence. I'm at a loss where they stand.
