how old are you? like, were you around for the attitude era? i can't imagine so, because those shows were 80% talk/storyline and wrasslin' was the BIGGEST THING IN THE WORLD.
i love the mix AEW has. they've got a lot of people who are good on the mic AND the matches are fun.
i need talking/storyline. sure, i like a good match but without talking/story i just can't bring myself to care or watch.
I'm 39 and grew up preferring the NWA and early WCW. I watched the Attitude Era and there was some fun stuff, but the vast majority of the actual wrestling in WCW and WWE during that time was just awful. Since then, pro wrestling has been on a steady downward spiral of mediocrity propped up by fans whose expectations have been lowered so drastically that they no longer have any concept of what a good wrestling show looks like anymore. I like the Japanese shows. If it's a 3 hour show, I get 3 hours of wrestling and not 1 hour of wrestling and 2 hours of bad acting.
Well, currently on one show there's a story about a sentient doll who helps her wrestler win matches. On another show one wrestler had to perform labours, like Hercules, in order to get the match he wanted. His last labour was that he had to come out to wrestle without his entrance music. Real riveting stuff.
And then wrestling fans wonder why most people consider it lowbrow entertainment.

There's way too much talking on either AEW or WWE. AEW on average has better wrestling but I can't stand either's dumb storylines and dumb matches.
