If you don't get a 700 on Math on it's own you might be subhuman.
You're allowed scientific calculators that have algebra solvers, you don't even have to be able to understand any of it to get a near perfect score.

I got 1600 with my only prep being the PSAT. I donโt know how a functioning adult could get below 1500 or something. Itโs like middle school reading and math.

Before 2005 it was math, reading, and essay, then they added a writing section which bright it to 2400 points, then in 2016 they combined the reading and writing so it went back to 1600. Then in 2021 they made the essay optional. The new one is also a lot easier than the old one](/i/l.webp)

They added an essay portion then took it back out a few years back. It was legit r-slurred and you could just write a super formulaic essay to get a good grade, but it didnโt really test anything other than if you prepared for it specifically. It had little to do with being a good writer in general.

You'd be surprised how little people understand about their calculators. It's basically a shit-test for people who understand common sense.
Similarly to how the "Science" Portion of the ACT involves no knowledge of science at all and is just an exercise in reading graphs and charts.

SAT scores are usually normed against the distribution of scores by test takers. IQ is normed against a representative sample of population. 50th percentile on SAT is probably better than 50th percentile of population (100 IQ), because stupid people usually don't bother taking the SAT. Besides this issue, SAT and IQ basically measure the same thing. So why not use IQ?

They're talking about available statistics. You can readily find sat distribution by race and s*x information updated yearly. IQ not so much and not with anywhere near the sample size and so little sampling bias.

IQ is too racist, the SAT used to be a better proxy for IQ but over the years they've changed it to make it more equitable or whatever and now it's not as useful as it used to be. MENSA will let you join if your SAT is good enough but only if you took it before 1994.
