Can someone who isnβt on Redditβs Most Wanted dm the r/redditalternatives guy (u/d3rr) to update this list? RA is a shithole but itβs nice to flex. We should be like #7 now.
Yes. Weβve passed 8kun and Saidit and Poal and shit.

Can a codecel explain to me how rdrama has pumped out more features in a couple months than reddit has in more than a decade? Its honestly impressive, but I don't know if that's my low expectations speaking.

This site is run by like 3 people, Reddit is controlled by probably a few hundred people and has shareholders and shit so if they implement something and it breaks even more people will be pissed.

Aevann can very literally do anything at all. And we also take a fun-first approach to development.
The internet was at its best in the late 90s/early 00s. Everyone agrees on this. It wasnβt at its prettiest or most functional, but it was definitely its most fun. What weβre trying to do here is recreate the feel of that era, coupled with (gradually) bringing back the robust and highly customizable personal profile options offered by platforms like MySpace. Thatβs a ways off though. But the profile will be the crux of the long-term user experience. Iβm not posting any concepts for it for awhile, but youβll all like it.
Old mechanics from the internet at its best, paired with the finest aspect of Web 2.0 days, leveraged by current technological capabilities.
Everything went to shit when the internet became ubiquitous and everything became soulless and corporatized. Every site these days has a battery of perfectly functional, easy to use, and entirely unremarkable, joyless checklist items. And that was inevitable and is fine. The internet has stabilized, and the platform-begets-platform model has just about run its course. Like brick and mortar businesses, itβs entirely likely that your grandchildren will have Reddits and Twitters and Facebooks and shit. These are unassailable forever-companies.
And the problem with new sites is they recognize the past pattern of like Facebook-begets-MySpace, Reddit-begets-Digg, etc., and they develop and operate under the misconception that this is how it will always be. Thatβs not the case anymore. Everyone is trying to be The New X instead of doing something new. The way forward lies not in becoming Walmart 1.1 or 2.0, but in gunning to become the best regional muffler shop chain or what the frick ever.
Masturbatory words words words theorypost, I donβt care. Iβm right.

Itβs under consideration down the line ironically, as an option. Seeing how things develop organically will heavily influence development though. This is new territory, and while I trust my judgement, seeing what people want without saying they want it will lead to the best possible user experience.
Though sometimes you have to force things they donβt know they want down their throats. Like un-mutable profile anthems.

Yea, thanks for the unmutable anthems. I discovered that while browsing at work! Now I always mute my media volume, in case there are any other surprises.

Big orgs move slowly, try to conserve money and are suspicious of any new feature that might upset their business model. And then are inevitably broken by smaller agile groups before those get big and repeat.

Reddit features are slow to come out because they A/B test the shit out of it to guarantee it's cost-effective and making the cattle stay on reddit longer. It has nothing to do with difficulty coding it.
