Are they? Cursory look at their GDP and PCI stats shows they're richer than France(and it probably means they're ahead of the most of Europe barring ultra rich ones like the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, etc...).

I guess depending on your definition of Western Europe that could be most of it though. By population France+Italy+Spain+Portugal will have more population than those but by clickbait journo rules that's only 4 counties so most are richer
