I’d say FTMs are more sane than your average MTF and would support the saner ones except it turns out testosterone is really terrible for the female body, I guess it’s their choice in the end.

I do think the modal attitude towards MTF (disgust) vs FTM (pity) is pretty illustrative. A MTF is like a sneaky thief trying to steal what isn’t his, and there’s an instinctual drive to keep him out. A FTM is like a yappy dog trying to pick a fight with a wolf, slightly annoying but not really worth paying attention to.

Paraphrasing, female privilege is given, male privilege is earned. When a man trains out the implicit demand is that society give him female privilege, and I think there’s some ancient tribal resistance to giving free things to outsiders that feels like disgust. When a woman trains out it’s implicit that she’ll have to earn her male privilege anyway, and it’s like, okay, good luck, if you earn it you earn it.

Back when I was in my 20s, I had a Little Mermaid backpack. Wore it everywhere. Why? Because I really like the Little Mermaid, it was a good backpack, and it let me know immediately which guys were insecure idiots.

If I was on public transport and I saw a guy smirking at my backpack, I was never bothered. I knew that if the two of us were dropped in the bush with nothing, I'd most likely be the one walking out alive. I didn't need to prove anything to them, and they'd already proved they weren't worth my time.
