Even if you do invite a literal Nazi are they really too scared to debate a Nazi on a stage and not be able to find someone who can destroy them in public? The standard they came up with in the original case regarding the anti war protester was "clear and present danger." The US was at war, and speech advocating draft resistant was a danger to society, which is what the government argued and the court agreed with. The fire in a theater thing was just a hypothetical towards the end. They dramatically narrowed that to "imminent lawless action" later.
