I think the jokes are at the expense of:
A) Brian. Everyone thinks he's guilty as sin and r-slurred joke defenses are just another way to dunk on him. The joke wouldn't work if you actually thought he was innocent.
B) Crimeshitters who turn a family's tragedy into one of their heckin cozy mysterinos and neurodivergentally sift through every bit of their lives.
