I read a study with 2 groups of subjects. Group 1 made an IQ test and then had a photo taken. Group 2 was taught the basics of IQ testing (the mean is 100, 130 is quite high, 70 is quite low, etc).

Then each person of group 2 was shown pics of people of group 1 and was asked to guess their IQ. The results were extremely accurate for male faces, but not for females. Turns out male r-slurs really look r-slurred.

That's not to surprising given the distribution of IQ in gender. Women cluster in the middle, and men at the extremes, so there's not a lot of space between smart and dumb women. There's not a lot of difference between smart and dumb women so it's hard to spot, while men trend towards real smart or real fricking dumb making it easy to see.

I suppose that depends on whether they were using the same IQ range for both sexes. I'd have thought it was more that women spend time faking how they look and get good at it
