Support the writers!
This thread is very very long and hits every possible argument related to the strike, from unions, communism, capitalism to AI, internet regulations and horse carriages. You can read it and stop here frankly.
what’s ironic is that it’s not even sustainable with that, lol.
I hope the show will get canceled just to see redditors seethe
This is the source of basically every problem in America. I can't stand this. And we actually made it illegal to not do this.
We are no longer citizens, we are consumers. At the expense of our planet, our own health, or the well-being of others, we must consume. Infinite, exponential growth with no sign of stopping.
And yet they find endless number of excuses when you tell them to just stop consooming
Firm reminder that in 2021, David Zaslav [Warner] earned 212.7 246 million dollars.
"earned"
Please all replace "earned" with "got paid". He did not earn that. He stole the surplus from the workers that generate the profit.
Yes, that's how businesses work
By this logic, the workers are responsible for the failures of the company too, but no one is consistent. You can’t have it both ways and expect to be taken seriously.
🥾 Your boot, sir
Reeeeeeeeeeeeee! Let me circlejerk in peace!!
It's usually the peeps who admire and idolize billionaires. And it's partially how the studios spin their argument. "Oh, you don't like these episodes of your favorite show? Blame the greedy writers who wouldn't work and make it better"
I'm sure they have plenty of examples of that happening
Anybody who claims to love movies and doesn't support this strike is a schmuck.
Or an AI techbro
Frick the writers, they suck!
A huge portion of crap writing is the studios dictating content to writers. I can’t wait for shows written entirely by marketing focus groups
Might just as well, how much worse can the scripts even get at this point?
That could actually be the result of the working conditions they're striking about. If only affluent LA natives in their 20s can afford to be writers, that's what you'll get.
Oh yes, I'm sure the union has nothing to do with why only certain people can become writers.
Some are thinking of the wider context here...
American Tv stars who make LITERALLY 10x the minimum wage: "yeah we're going on strike to get better wages"
American workers who earn so little they can't afford rent: "yeah I picked up a second minimum wage job. They don't give me any lunch breaks, which is against the law, but that's pretty commonplace and there's nothing I can do about it."
...only to end up sperging out
This started a small slapfight.
Heck yea. Korean entertainment is doing it better anyway
The koreaboos have entered the chat
The AI revolution is here
Before the pandemic, when you would tell some commie that the lazy entitled employees will get replaced by robots they would act all smug that the technology isn't there yet. Now they tremble in fear
"creative"
Neither can redditors
This. Sonic Prime feels so by-the-book for Sonic media that it fricking hurts, despite its wild-on-paper premise. And that's just something NETFLIX ONLY DISTRIBUTES. Internal wise? Get ready for the mass imitation of GDT Pinocchio by Skynet. :/
Why do redditors make everything they disagree with sound as cool as possible? Who wouldn't want to see Skynet's interpretation of Pinocchio?
Looking forward to all the new original screenplays written by ai
Then the comments prove how nothing will change.
ChatGPT and Adobe priming up their AI servers for an influx of prompts to write scripts...
I was watching Independence Day and Independence Day: Resurgence and the quality of dialog and acting is night and day difference. Everything in the first was so natural and authentic while everything in the second looked like it was written by an AI trying too hard.
I bet AI could’ve written a better sequel lmao
Great. Now all TV and movies are going to be written by chat GPT for the next few months.
How will we be able to tell?
Nooo! My Marvelrino movies!!
this hyperbole is wild. marvel movies are still very profitable for marvel and you’re greatly over exaggerating that marvel studios is dead lmao. they literally had a 12 year streak of churning out hit after hit, marvel is not going to die within our generation
Marvel movies have mainly been bad to mediocre , so nothing will change.
there has been 2 marvel movies this year I doubt audiences are that fatigued tbh
Frick your capeshit movies! What about MY capeshit movies!
The culture war coliseum
It's been funny seeing anti-SJW media channels stump for him because he killed "woke Batgirl."
With bonus Snyder-verse drama!
Is this true?
If Daddy will be elected a second time, do you guys think it will become it's own conspiracy theory?
Further proof that redditors are mentally children
Apparently, this strike happened because Netflix was being full of sh!t.
Mama would be proud of this manchild for not swearing on the internet
Not only is this redditor using childish insults like chuckefrick, he's also censoring them
darnit cant people just get along and pay appropriate wages and be happy 😭
Why can't everyone get along like in my children cartoons
One brave Disney shill single-handedly tries to stop the AI menace
I'm putting this last because it's long. Slight context, reddit user Block-Busted is a perpetually online /r/boxoffice user that comments on anything Disney related and defends it to the death: Marvel movies are always good and profitable (he kinda had to admit the latest movies suck tho, but he tries to downplay this), Disney movies haven't lost their magic, bad talks other animation companies, you get the gist. I had him tagged as 'Disney shill' for awhile and I genuinely hope he's actually getting paid for all the effort. All the comments in this section were meant to go into the AI revolution category until I realized that he obsessively responded to every single AI comment in the boxoffice thread. Here is his effort documented (any comment that doesn't have a link attached is his):
I've said this to other posters several times, but AI scripts are going to get into all sorts of legal controversies that studios might not want to face, especially when the strike is happening, not to mention that AI scripts are not all that good to begin with.
Or studios will use AI… technology is there. Might as well use it
Again, AI scripts are going to get into all sorts of legal controversies that studios might not want to face, especially when the strike is happening, not to mention that AI scripts are not all that good to begin with.
Actually, by the sound of it, AIs are one of the reasons why Writers Guild were trying to be on strike, not to mention that, while this is only for artworks for now, AI-generated materials are not protected by copyright laws the last time I’ve heard.
That would still be a can of worms for legal issues since they would keep have to use AI for that. And again, considering that AIs are some of the reasons why this strike was building up in the first place, using AI to write scripts during the Writers Strike might end up becoming a massive PR nightmare for that studio.
Not to mention that AIs are some of the reasons why this strike was building up in the first place.
That might actually be why studios might be rather less willing to rely on AI because if they do that, they would end up validating Writers Guild's argument and cause their reputation to plummet.
But here's the thing. You're going to need actual thinking AIs to fully avoid copyright issues and we have no idea when they're even going to become a feasible idea, not to mention that you still need human writers to polish whatever AI wrote, so studios would still need proper writers if they don't want so many legal troubles happening to their faces, not to mentiont that current AI scripts tend to be utter messes, especially if they're longer.
The problem with that idea is that not only AI scripts are not protected by copyright laws, which could end up putting studios into endless legal headaches, but most of those scripts are... not all that good, meaning that using AI to write scripts might not worth endless legal troubles.
Again, they still need some human writers to make those AI scripts unique enough to avoid copyright issues, which is probably not possible as of now.
But the thing is, you still need human writers to even attempt that and doing that without a WGA writer in this time period could result in a massive PR nightmare that they might not want to face.
I've said this to another poster, but by the sound of it, AIs are one of the reasons why Writers Guild were trying to be on strike, not to mention that, while this is only for artworks for now, AI-generated materials are not protected by copyright laws the last time I’ve heard.
Again, considering that AIs are some of the reasons why this strike was building up in the first place, using AI to write scripts during the Writers Strike might end up becoming a massive PR nightmare for that studio.
I'm not sure if that argument is worth the trouble considering that with reality shows, they still come up with their own ideas to an extent while such argument is going to be a lot harder to make it work with AI scripts.
Doubtful. If AI-generated scripts become norm, studios could lose their audience exponentially due to how awful those scripts can get. I mean, they start out okay, but they basically turn into Friedberg/Seltzer travesties as they progress.
A.I. is coming for a lot of the easier scripts… only a matter of time.
Again, the thing about that is that you still need human writers if you're hoping to avoid copyright issues, not to mention that most AI scripts are... not that good.
This reeks of ignorance since that's going to be a lot harder to do with longer scripts, not to mention that we don't even know if copyright laws would even allow that to happen for scripts. Again, I'm not sure if studios are going to risk that while this is happening. Also, for your earlier point, there are good scripts that ended up getting ruined by poor directings or studio meddlings.
But doing that during Writers Guild Strike would result in a lot of PR nightmare since that would look like studios are shooting writers in their backs. And again, you're still going to need human writers to polish those scripts if they even want a remote chance of avoiding legal troubles.
That would result in all sorts of issues like script itself being abysmal, legal headaches, and so on.
If studios actually do something like that, they might end up facing all sorts of issues like script itself being abysmal, legal headaches, and so on.
We need to have thinking AIs to even make that become a possible idea.
Actually, by the sound of it, AIs are some of the reasons why this strike was building up AND AI-generated works are apparently not protected by copyright laws. As far as I’m aware, this is mostly for artworks, but who knows if that gets extended to others as well.
To shake things up for a little bit, he's also getting triggered by the idea of streaming using foreign writers.
Not really. There are no shortage of cultural barriers that they might end up facing.
Doubtful. Anime and K-dramas are still going to have some cultural barriers that they need to overcome.
But those becoming fully mainstream is another matter. Keep in mind, at least reality shows didn't have so much cultural barriers involved.
Well, there's another thing with anime - some of them are downright cringeworthy (trust me, they can even make Eternals and Quantumania look like legit masterpieces) and could end up tarnishing anime's reputation in general.
