Starliner story is just sad at this point. This is also the reason why I believe the HLS will be delayed into the 2030s. Human spaceflight is just so complicated, and NASA is way more risk adverse today that in the 1960s.
Crewed commercial spaceflight is still highly regulated by NASA and the FAA. Unless you mean private non-ISS missions like Polaris Dawn, which indeed are way more risky.
