OP in /r/navy wants the military to give libertarians harmless outlets for you know what

Based boomer dog whistles about the gays

The Navy used to screen new accessions for psychological proclivities that were not a good fit with military life -- pyromania, sexual perversions, psychological problems, etc.

Edit: getting downvoted by people who like/want to frick kids.

Our profession takes a huge mental toll on us

You’re in the US Navy, no it fricking doesn’t.

One could only imagine the impossibility for a servicemember discovering their sexual attraction to children to seek medical attention.

Fortunately you’re surrounded by weaponry and incredibly deep water almost all the time. A 100% effective solution is seconds away 24/7 and doesn’t require any embarrassing disclosures.

ineffective stigma and punishment

Fingers that have been inside a child typed these words.

You do know not everyone in the Navy is on a boat, right? Although I do like your solution for the pedos!

Yes. I actually wasn’t trying to denigrate our seamen, I’m just pointing out how not traumatic it is. And how not traumatic virtually every aspect of the US military is.

When even was the last time the US Navy was really in anything approaching a battle?

In fact any navy? The most recent I can think of was the Falklands (and still kind of a walkover) and that was basically 40 years ago.

I was talking with a marine the other day about this. I said why would I want to be the guy carrying $20K worth of gear, when I could be the guy in $2Bn worth of ship, or flying a $50M helicopter? Which one is going to be seen as expendable?

The only mental toll is from lack of sleep. Which is, like, shitty, but also you aren’t seeing your buddy die of tension pneumothorax in your arms.
