They donβt deprive a kid of lifesaving treatment because of cost. Children are eligible for Medicaid/CHIP, and there are always copay assistance and free drug programs available for high dollar biologics for those with private commercial instance. They do not stop treatment just because of an inability to pay; they deal with that after. ALSO: oncologists donβt discuss cost. Billing is a completely separate department. Doctors donβt code and submit claims let alone know what an individualβs cost share would be after the claim is processed. Finally, when you have cancer you hit your out of pocket almost immediately. Except for very rare instances, OOP maximums are capped at $6350 post-ACA. Thatβs the cost of one PET Scan. After that, the insurance pays all claims at 100%.
