There are algos that draw perfect maps void of bias, fair maps.
Those are generally what are being pushed.
It isnt even primarily minority groups.
They're drawing maps that make political solutions essentially impossible.

So that would be still gerrymandering, right? Thats not a ban on gerrymandering thats using an algorithm in order to have a good gerrymander. The algo solution would probably work and be good, tho the thing with the voting process is itβs resistant to new technology. I say frick it, just let me vote using a website or email
And I know, but deadlock isnt nearly as bad to me as if youre actively discriminating against people. Not doing anything is better than doing something actively bad

Maps have to be drawn, gerrymandering is the act of drawing rigged maps to benefit your party.
They're already using these programs to draw rigged maps btw, that's why gerrymandering has become so much more extreme.
You can now use software to draw wave immune districts, making political solutions impossible.

But then you cant just use algorithms by your own admission if there are potential algorithms that can do the opposite? Wouldnt it then be possible to pass off an algorithm that seems fair as one thats actually not fair? Isnt bias sometimes in the eye of the beholder, like for example you could draw a map based around what you think will be fair and then come election people have moved or areas have gentrified?
Gerrymandering can also mean drawing the maps to benefit a social or political class, but even if gerrymandering only means bad gerrymandering, wouldnt some bias need to be included in order to be biased against people who are worth being biased to, ie the poorer areas?
I mean the general point we can agree on is that gerrymanders should be competitive because then if they arent itβs not an election, but yeah

Thats cool then, they should use that. You still kinda like missed my point about, and i know this is a wokie argument, but sometimes math is biased in its own way. What if a mathematically fair map isnt competitive enough in a way that is subjective or a difficult scenario to rule on?

Idk what u mean by the first thing but yea the second thing sucks obviously. Your right about the problem and the solution u propose would still be better than the alternative but my only issue is u suggest quick fixes that dont take into account other problems that may happen. Like sometimes there is an ethical question that will have to be proposed if u ever get to that point, lucky for u that these will never get proposed so long as rethugs are corrupt and dems are tools
