Apparently this used to be a huge issue before lightning rods were invented. Basically in any given tiny town the church was the tallest building so was the most likely to get struck by lightning, but also people believed that lightning strikes were God's will so when it happened it must be because the church/priest was doing something wrong.
There was even some bonus drama where people opposed installing lightning rods because that was thwarting God's will. How would we know who the evildoers are if we stop God from righteously punishing them with a bolt of lightning?
