Hi everyone. I’m a 34/F in Chicago who has been isolating since March 2020 and despite my best efforts I can’t seem to connect with anyone locally or virtually. I know these things take time and effort, but as someone who is isolating totally alone, I feel like a large part of my issue is having different social needs than someone who is isolating with family, friends, or a partner. This doesn’t mean that I’m only looking for fellow solo Coviders, but someone whose situation is closer to mine is more likely to have an eagerness that matches their emotional bandwidth to connect in the way I’m hoping to. I think. But I also used to think that the pandemic would be over by now, so clearly I don’t know anything except that sometimes you gotta put yourself out there, so here’s a little about me.

• I wear an N95, live alone, work from home, avoid gatherings and restaurants, basically I have minimal exposure risk. I also go to Zoom University for computer science, but am taking the summer off from classes so I can work on my portfolio. Currently building a music composition program for guitar. If you’re towing the line between recluse and full on hermit and have some good records to suggest, we will get along.

• This summer my goal is to learn how to crochet, so I have something to do with my hands over Zoom. My other goal is to use up all the chili I have. There was a big sale and I went a little overboard, but who can turn down BOGO Cascabels? If you have any hobbies or creative pursuits you’d want to share I’d love to hear. Also, any salsa recipes, because I can’t stress enough how I bought all the chilis.

• I’m pretty far left but honestly am burnt out on organizing. It’s important work, but without a current outlet to nourish my silly and playful side, it becomes too much for me mentally. That said, it’s good to be politically aligned, since our ideologies manifest in a lot of interpersonal ways. If you have ever called your congressional representatives to discuss the plot of Venom 2, because you needed to talk to someone (anyone) after that rave scene, but all the people you used to know were busy being naked-faced derelicts,we will get along.

• I am an optimist. And yeah, I know toxic positivity is real, but at the same time, it can be really hard to build friendships rooted in our feelings about Covid, because there are only so many ways to say “this really sucks”. I want to know what cool things you have done lately. What your current obsession is. What’s your opinion about the T.Swift breakup is (was Joe the dumper or dumpee?). Do you think our pets have nicknames for us? If you put a hotdog in a bowl and fill it with water, is it soup? If you want to talk about anything other than Covid, I am not only down, but eager to be an enthusiastic audience, since I won’t be constantly stressed for the moment you reveal yourself as a minimizer.

Well this post is long enough, but hey, if verboseness isn't proof that I'm being cautious, then I don't know what is.
