China is light years behind the West and Taiwan/Japan/SK when it comes to semi-conductors. AI runs on semi-conductors. Whoever has the best computer chips controls the world, and China is a laughing stock in this department. Also the idea that China is ahead of companies like Google, NVIDIA, IBM and Intel when it comes to AI is utter nonsense. These companies are way ahead of anyone else on the planet.

To put things into perspective, the home-grown Chinese computer chips are about as fast as NVIDIA's mid-tier chips from 2016, which at this point may as well be stone-age technology considering that the industry is moving towards the EUV production process. Naturally the Chinese don't have EUV since Drumpf banned the EU from selling EUV technology to China.

"Whoever controls the design and production of these microchips, they'll set the course for the 21st century," said Martijn Rasser, a senior fellow at the Washington-based think tank Center for a New American Security.

"By gaining control over Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, China would control the global market," Rasser said. "They would have access to the most advanced manufacturing capabilities and that is even more valuable than controlling the world's oil."

So within a decade China will control the global market?

No, because the West is finally realizing that concentrating all of your production in one country is a terrible idea. Both the Taiwanese giant TSMC and American companies such as Intel have begun expanding into Europe, Japan, South-Korea and also building more fabs in the US itself (there's a 5nm TSMC plant currently under construction in Arizona). These chip fabs are insanely expensive so they usually get billions in government funding. The Intel fab being planned for Germany will get 3 billion Euro's worth of subsidies. It will take at least 10 years before the West is "safe" in terms of chip production. As long as China doesn't get Taiwan until then, we're good.

Sounds like pentagon neighbor trying to scare people into thinking we needs more moneys for A.I. Same thing they did for the War Against Terror, and Space Race.
