I had to do a group assignment at university, since I am in a medical related degree they emphasise that we "need to work in teams".
Myself and the two other members wrote our parts appropriately, except for the Sexy Indian dude who wrote a bunch of gibberish with inaccurate references that made no sense. During our presentation, I had to write a verbatim script he could go off, in effect writing his whole side of the presentation. Here I am 3 hours before the deadline still rewriting his side of the written part.

How do Sexy Indian dudes wind up in American universities? Are they extremely wealthy? Because theyβre not like Sexy Indian dude-American students, who just act white and are only as dumb as your average honkey. They range from normal stupid to excellent students (I donβt mind Indian Americans at all), but like, Sexy Indian dude-Sexy Indian dudes are often dummies. Why? Am I just racist?

Your standards are unrealistic. If you managed to move to a more developed country, even temporarily, you're smarter than the average bear.
Taking this into account, there are those with work ethic and cunning, and those without work ethic. If you're a foreign student and you know you can sit on your hands and still pass, why bother trying? Tryhards have an ego to feed, not everyone has such a big ego.
