My uncle had a massive heart attack the month after he landed in the US (he won the green card lottery, which is such a weird concept by itself lol). He got insanely good medical care, a super long surgery and weeks of recovering in the hospital/physical rehab center. for FREE. Even here in canada I'm not sure if he could get it for free so soon after arriving , and even then you get trash service since the hospital has no incentive to do anything but keep you somewhat alive.

Technically I don’t have an β€œincome” and wasn’t enrolled in insurance, so I was kinda freaked out when I swung an axe through my boot and into my foot.

Not because of the damage, but because of the emergency room costs I’d have to pay out of pocket.

After the X-rays and getting stitched up (yes europoors and r-slur-Americans - they’ll fix you up before even asking if you can pay for it) the billing lady came into my hospital room and asked me a few questions. Was I employed? No officially. Income? Not that they’d be able to find. Did I have health insurance? Of course not.

Right then and there the nice lady signed me up for Medicaid. Not only would my visit be covered, but it would retroactively cover any medical expenses from the previous four months!

I’m sitting in an $8k chair, living in a 5000sqft house, waiting on my new BMW to arrive, and you, yes YOU! The taxpayers! Your hard earned money is paying for 100% of my medical care!
