Yep it's always funny how many burgers b-word about healthcare when there's programs specifically set up to help with the cost. Also if you're a wagie a ton of companies will have a specific fund that they don't publicly announce and your hr benefits person will tell you about if they demand you pay for certain things up front.

There’s an interesting article on slatestarcodex before it moved to substack about how the Amish have been able to negotiate very good prices with doctors as a group, not exactly relevant in atomized society but removing more trivial bullshit made doctors willing to forgo cost (since most have security anyways).

Wasn't it also that they swore they would never sue and hospitals trust them because they never have.

It was more that they wouldn’t do it reactively, If they had simply removed the same higher standard for care it wouldn’t have been newsworthy to analyze. Things like OB have lot of suing partially because you want there to be a “responsible” person, you’re won’t do the same even if there was a statistically safer “brain surgery” because you think “Yeah but it’s brain surgery”

There was a r/drama post linked to a r/chapotraphouse post linked to some other post way back when that was about a big hotshot business consultant trying to help a failing company. Long story short he concluded that basically a whole office building of employees in NYC was completely worthless and fired all of them, and it saved the company because it was quite literally a whole office full of do-nothing PMCs. This caused chapos to lose their minds of course. Unfortunately I can't find the link

do-nothing PMCs

If a successful communist revolution happens it will be because they kill PMCs first, including the ones that make up their ranks. Biggest wreckers imaginable, Pol Pot was right to kill all glasses wearing nerds.

Poor people don't pay into the system anyway why don't we just go to single payer and cut out all the administrative fat?

Because most people want more than one option that is just from the government. People would support a public option but the left went full r-slur and has been pushing Medicare for all which would completely nationalize the insurance industry. In addition to making any private insurance illegal, it would also probably not even be constitutional.
