Appreciating Canadian wildlife with Hinterland Who's Who : The Eastern Canadian Chipmunk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlxepRG-2aw

The eastern Canadian Chipmunk is a member of the squirrel family. It differs from the squirrel in that it is smaller and that it has large cheek pouches capable of storing a large quantity of nuts or seeds which it stores as it retreats back to its burrow. Eastern Canadian Chipmunks are diurnal, meaning that they are active during the day and sleep at night. They have litters of 4-6 kits during the springtime and work tirelessly over the summer months to accumulate food stocks to last through the winter months while it hibernates.

Please enjoy our government produced video documenting the Chipmunk in this episode of Hinterland Who's Who.

I was expecting this to be like the Crack Cocaine Spider video, but it was still very cute :marseyblush:

Crack spider was based on these. When we were kids the Canadian government decided we needed to have tax payer produced ads talking about Canadian wildlife - there's one for the loon, the beaver, musk rat, moose.. they made a whole shit load. At the end of each on they'd encourage to write to the Ministry of Wildlife for "more information". I had a nerdy friend write once and they sent him reems of tax payer funded booklets full of information on musk rats.

Unfortunately, like many other things, the internet has killed off the need for Hinterland Who's Who. Watching these videos is nostalgic for us r-slurred Leafs,

I know doesn't it just take you back to watching Friendly Giant or Mr Dressup? I know I'm dating myself but idc.

I have seen Heritage Minutes resurfacing from time to time, "Miss Campbell you know I cannae read a word" schoolhouse teacher and "Doctor, I smell burned toast" neuroscientist one.

Polka Dot Door was on TVO - the communist Ontario public access channel and they didn't show TV commercials. At least I think it was on TVO? There was also Frightening House of Dr Frankenstein on CHCH out of Hamilton and Hammy Hamster also on TVO pretty sure, frick I loved that stupid little hamster. Oh and Littlest Hobo was a fricking based kid's show CTV Toronto, had a german sheperd of my own at the time.
