Do we live in the same reality? Did you not watch the 2016 Republican National Convention and see Newt Gingrich say that the facts may show that crime is on the decrease, but the fact that things feel less safe is what matters? Did you not see Michael Gove say that the problem with modern liberal politics is that β€œpeople have frankly had enough of experts”? The people that hold these political opinions are exactly the mouth breathing man-children that watch this stuff literally, believe in Pizzagate await the next Q-anon update. That is their entire media diet; not a rare treat, not something to be counterbalanced with The New York Times. It is all they consume and the impact of that is echoing in the post-truth political landscape.

^ a weird perspective where superhero movies are seen exclusively by republicans

theres a lot of people who agree with these takes and then you check their history and theyre wokeshitters angry superhero movies dont talk about trump all day. it's a strange beast

Alan Moore is the worst kind of hipster. He's an old crank where nothing popular is good and anything good must be on his own terms. Only his stories, only his ideas and themes (a lot of which are really creepy, r*pey, and include incest). There's nothing wrong with liking pop culture. I love superhero movies (even with their many flaws) and if you don't, that's fine. But, the idea that Spider-Man is only meant for 12 year olds in the 60s is 1. Not true and 2. Really short sighted. Stories and characters change and adapt. The messages if these stories speak to a lot of people. Just because it's popular, doesn't make it bad. I would like to see more original stories in film but I've heard Moore talk like this for decades and he hasn't said anything of value. Superheroes inspire. Yes, it's also entertainment, but I feel like his hatred of heroes says waaaay more about him than about pop culture.

I like super heroes but it’s because I’m an emotionally stunted man child. People just need to admit the same. No superhero media is intended for intelligent adults lmfao

Who imagines the elderly watch anything laudable, tho. I think this is where the brainrot sets in. "Police Gazette" was the bestselling publication in the 1800s (it was just True Crime accounts of murders, so like old people watching CSI.)

to me enjoying fiction is like enjoying food. you need to have a healthy diet of shows out of your comfort zone and classics you haven't seen, with stuff like superheroes, sci-fi and horror schlock reserved as treats. so you can read your monthly spider-man or batman but pls intersperse it with something middlebrow like breaking bad or the sopranos then even try watching a david lynch movie. don't just consume snacks all day
