I used to travel in some gay Christian circles back in the day. They twisted themselves in knots arguing how the anti-sodomy verses were mistranslated, or misunderstood, or whatever.

Even back then I thought they were trying too hard. The way I saw it, only two options made any sense:

1. Those particular verses are wrong, but the overall message of the bible is true.

2. The whole bible is untrue.
