Meditation Monday (2023-10-02)

How is everyone's practice going?

Mine was pretty bad this last week. I had a good long sit last Monday, and then it was maybe 50/50 every other day between not sitting at all and only going through a dozen or so breaths and then a brief body scan or so. It's very difficult for me to keep a practice up for extended periods of time. Part of my hope with this hole is at the very least it helps reorient me towards the buddhadhamma more often than otherwise (so hopefully at least once/twice a week).

:marseysigh:

So much suffering to unbind. So little time in life.

Have daily meditations best suit your needs? I've had better luck with meditation and active consciousness alternating each day

What do you mean by active consciousness? Is this a practice you set aside time for?

It's a practice I do while talking, fully embodying the experience and metacognating. It turns out a lot like meditation ime but with a focus on the ways I touch the world rather than the ways it touches me.

I do that for about ten minutes a day when I don't have a suitable space to meditate.

Interesting. I still don't really understand though. Did you come up with this yourself? You basically talk to yourself, about what you were just thinking for ten minutes?

Nah I do it while talking with others. And I just try to be extremely aware of the ways in which ideas and intent and biases and the words we trap ideas inside interact. It succeeds in dissolving the illusion of self, at least. Not sure if other people would say it has the value that meditation has but I've never been one to believe the answers are inside of me.

I feel like I more discovered this idea than created it, but I don't have a coherent idea of where. It feels older than Grue, even in what I call my mind.

Interesting idea. I may try it out. The issue I think I would have is I would be socially stupid when doing it and the other person would be like "Are you okay??"

It definitely helps if you have some pretense to be an active listener :marseywink:
