This is what happens when you get some hack who can barely write a story arc that spans 3 hours of screen time and ask them to adapt a book series that's millions of words long and has sold 100m+ copies worldwide.

The whole reason the book series got a greenlight for an adaptation was because of its popularity. The people trying to change it are people who have never created their own popular stories and yet somehow they think they can do better.

It's actually pretty funny, entire plotlines are already unravelling at this point and we only got to the second book, I'm not even sure they will be able to keep the story coherent by season 4.
