A female Blade isn't a bad idea, I mean Blade is not high-concept it's schlocky action-horror vampire movie. That's not bad, and it means that having a female lead needn't go wrong - try making her as close to a rip-off of Vampirella as you can get away with is one way to make it work.
But it sounds like they couldn't even manage that. When we're at the point that you can't even make a no-brainer vampire movie with a hot chick in the lead, things are really dire. And if you're gonna keep Blade as the main character, then making him fourth lead is beyond stupid. Team him up with/against a hot vampire chick? That works. Make it all about Strong Women with Blade relegated to standing around in the background? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
