Anonymous confession thread [REVEALED]

I've given this thread the ghost award so that all the comments are anonymous. Got a confession? Have beef with someone? Just want to rant? Share it here.

:fatpriest:

EDIT: Well apparently you can see who gave an award. So I'm not anonymous, but everyone else still is.

Yeah I'm a burger. It's not something I'm proud of, but I'm content that I didn't save that dude's life. He killed a good man and a father who only wanted to protect his wife and newborn son from murderous lunatics. War brings out the worst in us, don't vote for r-slurred politicians who have nothing at stake.

Why'd you join the military out of curiosity? Patriotism, or the benefits?

Mostly the challenge and opportunity to actually make an appreciable difference in other people's lives. I was and still am (now in the national guard) an SF medic. I worked an office job as an engineer in my early 20s for a bit and found it incredibly boring. I didn't want to spend the prime years of my life behind a desk indoors, so I signed up for a training pipeline that would kick my nuts in repeatedly. Part of it was wanting to get to do cool shit that you only otherwise see in video games and movies. I stayed because I love the camaraderie, the shared sense of purpose, the ridiculous drunkest weekends with the boys, and the banter.

At what age did you join? Would you do it again?

I joined at 24, and yes I'd do it again. I've had the best times of my life being in the military.

Electrical engineer for a defense corp. That's what I do now that I'm in the NG.

Why didn't you pursue an officer career track? I guess you'd sit in an office most of the time anyway

Is there a reason why you’d recommend against someone joining?

The maddest I got at Orange Father was when he abandoned the Kurds in Syria. A good friend of mine was an Iraqi Kurd that came over to America to learn English so he could be a translator for the US military back home. He stopped posting on social media some years back so I suspect he was killed. He was one of the kindest and funniest people I ever met. We've repeatedly used (it's not just DDR) and then thrown away his people, and they still keep helping us. I wonder for how much longer though.

I kinda wish I joined the military just because you don't really know yourself until you've lived through true danger. I see the brotherhood that soldiers have and I envy it.
