/r/camping is disgusted by the concept of BBQ

https://old.reddit.com/r/camping/comments/q6xult/definitely_car_camping_food_sinoquipe_scout?sort=controversial

r/camping is mostly populated by glampers and vegans. OP posted a hog roast which offended its userbase so much that the post was removed by mods.

Can you please flag this as NSFW? Not everyone wants to see a burnt corpse.

We've known for decades that it's not necessary [to eat meat], so it just comes down to your morals and capacity to feel compassion for other sentient beings

Edit: bunch of fragile snowflakes in here eh?

There certainly are.

Yeah, no matter your views or dietary choices this was disturbing to scroll upon unexpectedly.

Edit: I don't understand why I am getting downvoted for this. I am glad a ton of you campers seem to have grown up in a world where seeing a dead animal splayed out to be roasted apparently is commonplace, but not everyone has that same experience and an image like this can be shocking for some people. Despite growing up with these experiences (roasting pigs, family being hunters, seen many a dead animal), tons of campers do the outdoors very differently, and I don’t understand why we can respect other people enough to a least give them a warning that what they are going to see isn't exactly going to be "normal." I thought campers were friendly and inviting? You do you, but why are we all acting like the full body of a dead animal isn't something a lot of people see every day? I'm glad the places I go and the people I camp with give off very different vibes than the people on this thread.

I thought this was just a roast of OPs cooking skills.

I click the link to find out he's getting yalled from posting an image of something you'd basically find in any western supermarket. Have these people never seen a rotisserie before?

Back when I was a kid that is what they used to call pig roasts. Now pig roasts have become smoked hog butts and ribs.

God I miss whole hog pig roasts. I still remember when I was little and my dad was helping to pull the meat, he'd have me come over and give me meat from various places on the pig, telling me what it was. The good old days sure were good.

I swear to God, I've never had better pork than pig roasts back in the day. I miss them.

I was also taken as a kid to see the slaughter of the pig for one big community event. Dad wanted me to know where the meat comes from. They boltgunned that pig dead in a second, hung it, slit its throat, cleaned it and I got the heart and put it in a jar of rubbing alcohol and took it to school for science.

All the OP Had to do was say he was Asian and that they were making racists jokes at his expense to flip the scales.

Sad!

If the only things anyone did were things people paid them to do, the only things that would ever get done are the things the wealthy find profitable. What a sad world that would be.

Some of us volunteer at parks.

Some of us volunteer at soup kitchens.

Some of us volunteer advice and knowledge.

Is this really that much different?

Yeah, Reddit is a for-profit company. It's still worth it to volunteer moderation duties to ensure that people have a corner to discuss and debate without having to worry about bullies. Sure, it would be nice to get a free subscription to Premium or something, but that's not going to be the main motivation.

I use uBlock Origin. This is my way of paying back the site. Well, that and all the awards I give away or generate.

And believe you me, I very much enjoy moderating bullies and keeping vulnerable populations safe from their bullying. Clicking "ban" on some random racist so they can't call someone names? Ohhhh that's payment enough.
