i dont understand the comic. what happened to the family that owned this cat that now its sleeping next to trash? usually the pet dies of old age/etc before a fam will abandon it

This dumb bish I worked with at my first job adopted a kitten but then decided she was going to move to Paris and be a chef (lol ok, Emily) so she dumped her cat back at the shelter and signed up for an overpriced cooking class in Paris.

Plenty of families get their kids a young animal (typically a kitten or puppy, but it happens with rabbits too) for Christmas, and then three months into the next year it's running wild because they did zero training, the kids have stopped taking care of it because they only want the fun part of owning a pet and scooping litter is icky and walkies are boring, and it's costing a lot more in food and supplies than they realised, so the parents get rid of it.
