Dying company Rooster Teeth openly admits they're running out of money. The employeees cope in the thread.

https://old.reddit.com/r/roosterteeth/comments/18madrg/important_updates_from_rooster_teeths_general?sort=controversial

This is some funny shit. Announcement begins with "Hi y'all" so you know it's going to be a well-written and mature post from a community manager that didn't graduate with a liberal arts degree paid for entirely by daddy. Some highlights include:

More change is coming. Traditionally, the end of the year is when we share an announcement about RTX badge sales and important dates. However, I'm sorry to inform you that we will not be hosting RTX in 2024. We have every intention of resuming RTX in the future and bringing everyone back together.

Like they did with E3 :clueless:

The reality is that RTX has never been profitable for us.

Oh.

There's an assumption that we're โ€œrolling in itโ€ because we're owned by a large conglomerate, but that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Ohhh.

We're bringing back fan-favorite content with new episodes of Camp Camp (premiering March 1, 2024. and the final season of Red vs. Blue, Restoration! But to do this, in full transparency: we can't make it happen without your direct support. Advertising, especially on our own platform, and revenue sharing, from the social media platforms that offer such arrangements, are no doubt helpful, but they don't come close to offsetting expenses.

They don't even have ideas, just "give us money please".

As you're likely aware, many digital publishers, creators, and companies posting social media entertainment are struggling. That's why we're not the only ones who are making such a direct appeal for patronage support these days.

No it's not that they've been hemorrhaging quality, creators, and good ideas for almost 5 years now - it's just a downturn in media for no reason at all.

Let's go to the replies!

...The Redditoids aren't having it:

Businesses in several sectors are posting record profits. Sure there's little disposable income but spending hasn't actually gone down, it's just more driven by debt now. There is no way Rooster Teeth as a company is making less now than they were when RTX first came into existence.

Barbara, the unqualified community manager, responds:

I can't 100% confirm this, but can almost guarantee we are making less now than we were in 2011. But that is also due to having higher expenses now.

Replies:

Pointless to "confront" the problem and then do absolutely nothing to combat it.. except take away more and more big earners for them and not actually replacing it with anything that made it worth subbing to them to begin with..

Ask them how Dog Bark is doing.

Someone points out their podcasts get pathetically small views:

:marseyclueless: redditor #1:

Whoaa always open got cancelled again??

:marseydepressed: redditor #2:

Not surprising when it was getting an hilarious ... <5k...views.

:marseyseethe: Community manager to the rescue again:

It was struggling, yes, but the podcast (and the majority of our podcasts) are mainly consumed on audio platforms. For example, Tales from the Stinky Dragon gets in the 6 figures for weekly downloads on audio platforms, but only 2-10k on our YouTube channel. (edit: grammar)

This is just a lie. Look up their old video podcasts and they'd get hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube alone. Nobody is watching or listening to this shit, no matter how much they keep repeating "it's just on platforms where the numbers aren't public!". Just like how they said all the views suddenly migrated to their own site for no reason at all before laying off a ton of people :marseyxd:

Anyway, someone feels bad for their parasocial girlfriend having to say her creation fricking sucked and no one watched it, so they simp for her :marseysmug3: :

Since you are being so active here and the other user mentioned it, I just wanted to say that Always open, both runs, have been my absolute favorite thing at RT. I've been a fan since early 2013, and was a sponsor until 2019 when I was no longer grandfathered into it.

...And even then they admit they stopped subscribing when they stopped honoring the old cheaper pricing :marseyrofl:

TBH they dumped it on a channel they advertised as "girls only" and then forgot to advertise it any more..

hahaha what the frick, even I only just found this out. These r-slurs really have no idea what they're doing :marseyflushzoom:

Really? Who in their right mind that has been paying attention the last couple years think RT is doing well? Maybe 10 years ago... sure

Barbara again:

We consistently see comments and posts from people claiming we get handed buckets of money from Warner to make stuff. That is what is being addressed, is that misconception.

"hmm today I will sell out my beloved independent entertainment company (that is actually turning a profit) to a corporate company which is small enough to easily be sold to a conglomerate that doesn't give a shit about us. Surely the short term money will be worth it" :clueless: "Wait why are people thinking we'd get some sort of benefit down the line? What kind of idiot would think that" :marseyseethe:

Disenchanted fan:

They would have kept me as a first member if they didn't make us last members by making RWBY vol 9 Crappyroll only.

Barbara:

There wouldn't have been a RWBY V9 without Crunchyroll. They helped fund the season, in exchange to have exclusivity for a year on their platform.

"Don't you get it r-slur, we had to deprive you of content you paid for to make content for you to pay for!"

And finally, some choice random replies of redditors realizing how bad this company is:

How come like 9 out of 10 times there's big RT news its bad? Glad I got to attend a couple of RTXs in the past.

...

.......I get it. But this is just depressing. Something I love and have followed religiously is dying a slow death. Getting harder and harder to identify with anything. Change is always good. The whole rtx thing was probably unavoidable. But I feel like certain aspects of the company were just allowed to die.

...

I understand where they are coming from, but disposable income is shrinking drastically in this economy for the majority of their fans. We as fans can't subsidize this company and all the projects they want to work on, realistically.

Especially when people have been SO vocal about not getting content they are willing to pay for, for a long time now, and nearly every OG First benefit being taken away over the last few years. It's not like they couldn't see this coming.

The company is just not going in a direction people want to or even CAN support monetarily anymore. With the regularly increasing prices for regularly decreasing benefits, it just isn't justifiable for most people anymore.

...

I can't believe RT messed up the formula of: make rwby get money. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Apparently their jannies have made new rules saying that people can't be so negative anymore, so these are the comments that passed muster lol. Rooster Teeth fans:

Can I get a QRD on what happened to all the guys that left? I stopped watching all their stuff like 10 years ago and now it looks like a shitty kids video game content channel but it's a super bloated corporation?

if you watched the original crew that did red vs blue:

burnie: retired and disappeared off the face of the internet conveniently before anything bad happened with rooster teeth

geoff: still there, but the personification of the brendan fraser eyes meme

joel: was constantly antagonized for being too rightoid and left the company later

if you watched achievement hunter:

ray: gone

ryan: fricked some fans, gone

gavin: still there but barely shows up

jeremy: just frickin left, idr why

matt: laid off

andy: laid off

everyone else: who cares

Okay I understand why it went from three guys in a basement playing Halo to 15 people managing media and doing reshoots and new productions of Red v Blue but past the guys you just mentioned and the one hot blond chick (Elise?) I don't understand why they have/had so many people it's hard to keep track of things
