Guessing by the posters on lobste.rs, I think you'd need to turn up to smaller conventions/meetups or have a popular account on a Safe For Work activitypub instance. I can understand gatekeeping the businesscels from The Orange Site but it's still a clone site with extreme hotpockets, so it's still full of wankers.

yeah I'm pretty sure I'd need to write up a blog like "how I used [niche/old unix-style stack] to replace [modern microservice stack]" and get invited that way. I've found it easier to get into even private tracker sites.
