oh it would be amazing if the hoover dam collapsed and las vegas returned to desert, it just wouldn't result in the immediate death of 10s of millions of people. plus they poured the concrete slowly and refrigerated the concrete to ensure the concrete cured at the correct rate to not be brittle so it didn't ever really develop the immediate problems the three gorges dam did. Of course, it's a ginormous wall of water so I'm sure it's going to fail eventually.
The three gorges dam doomers are hitting the three gorges at two different angles now. It does appear that it has moved more but can you really trust the satellite photos? It does seem like alot of cracks have developed but that's been happening. The funnest new angle is that Taiwan is just going to blow it up when china invades and they do have missiles that could make it that far. It's unclear if those missiles would cause the dam to fail and surely the chinese have countermeasures in place. Nothing stopping the cartels from doing the same to the hoover darn, i imagine, it's just that america only has like 100k people downstream on the river and didn't put it next to a city that has over 10 million people in the same province as the dam

Issue with dam collapse is rarely structure itself. Its connection to ground and surrounding areas. Dam is usually most stabel part. Because ground isnt static. Proplems may arise long after dam was build. Either water gets into ground and affect stability or water ends up cracking bedrock over the years.
If i have missed dam failure. Last one was when sudendly there was more water then before and it tanked stability of one of the banks. It started to cave in. That allowed water flow through there. This in turn allowed water to eat away bank next to dam. Eventually this broke the dam.

They have already gone back and poured additional concrete at the base to fix that problem somewhat, but the three gorges darn also may not sit on bed rock everywhere
The also unload ships upriver and move the cargo upriver to other ships and vice versa now due to so much leaking in the ship locks foundation
a couple chinese dams made in other countries are at risk of structural failures due to cracking. One is no longer being used bc of saftey concerns but one in africa will fail, more than likely, since they have no choice but to keep using it. I think that's the one in uganda
Also the three gorges already nearly overflowed once. I think it was within 10 m but it was over it's safety height with all gates open to empty water. It's seemed like the dam moved alot after that incident.
it's not just the three gorges dam either. There are large dams upstream with their own problems that could cause a three gorges darn failure, even if it was perfectly made and missile proof
