From a video game perspective, they never innovated after ~2014. They owned the LetsPlay channel name and decided to more or less abandon it!
RvB has been shit for a long time, at least since the Halo 3 days.
Can't speak for RWBY but apparently it started sucking right after Monty died.
Constantly screwing over their Youtube audience (how they were getting a new audience) and fricking up their website (for the paypigs).
The company has been constantly accused of nepotism, at least as far back as Kathleen Zuelch accusing Barb of being promoted due to being the office fricktoy in 2013. Probably earlier
The company angered Team DEI with how they handled Micah, then constantly tried to appease Team DEI (poorly!) at the expense of everything else.
Yeah, their death was at minimum 8 years too late.

COMPLETELY rework the story and keep the grimdark premise. Demonic creatures attracted to human misery have nearly made Humanity extinct, what few remnants cling to life in isolated sanctums where child soldiers are forced to literally put their souls on the line to buy another day of survival. Add something of the human remnants knowing that misery attracts Grimm and yet still be dystopian societies for le social commentary and drama.

RWBY's setting is way more interesting than the writers knew what to do with
I'm a sucker for fantasy zombies
and I've seen fan art where the Grimm are much cooler than they could ever be in 3D web animation. I think the RWBY backstory even had a War that was fought over an attempt by one faction to ban all artistic creativity and individual freedoms because they thought a perfectly ordered society would be immune to Grimm. It's interesting that there's actually a logical in universe reason why autocracy might take hold.
RWBY did a good thing in destroying the high school and forcing the girls to go get jobs
Problem is the plot meandered for so long. Stuff as significant as the Atlas whatnot should have happened earlier. If it was paced properly I think it could be interesting that Team RWBY might gradually age into adults post Beacon destruction and along the way they'd get involved in the politics of the setting. I think James Ironwood and Adam Taurus for example could have been great secondary villains it's just that the writers bit off more than they could chew and didn't characterize them very well.
With the plot as it is now I'm not sure how team RWBY was ever going to defeat Salem and Cinder

How do you think Season 10+ was supposed to go? The writers have said Season 10 was rearing to go so it's already written, but I wonder what would have happened past that.
They gave team RWBY too many L's. It still feels like Cinder and Salem would just kick the shit out of them after all these years.
Also I really liked the Rusted Knight idea from Volume 9. What if Jaune was actually a badass now since he technically has decades of experience? Or what if Salem found out about the time travel fruit he found and used it to try and change her past?

Jaune shouldn't have done any time travel bs. His sword is a family ancestral blade that's been passed down for supposedly generations. I would have made it that the Crocea Mors has absorbed some essence of past generations of Arcs since strengthening weapons in RWBY is essentially forcing your SOUL into them. Having generations of warriors pour their soul into a weapon would surely do SOMETHING to it, something downright magical.
For Salem I would have just copies the Tiamat myth from Enuma Elish. She's a primordial entity of creation gone made when her own creation (((Ozma))) scorns her love and births monsters. Ruby gets WOKE and scatter her body to never again threaten them.
In the EnΓ»ma Elish, the Babylonian epic of creation, Tiamat bears the first generation of deities; her husband, Abzu, correctly assuming that they are planning to kill him and usurp his throne, later makes war upon them and is killed.
