He’s certainly merry enough to play a fat hippy, being merry is key imo

Force him to cut off his finger for the role.

God darn it Jonah Hill can only play different versions of Jonah Hill. This is like casting Seth Rogen as Wozniak in that Jobs biopic. Apple TV sucks and Scorsese needs to be put out to pasture.

Rogen Woz was great and Moneyball Jonah was great and very different from other Jonahs

You are incorrect and money ball Jonah Hill was just serious Jonah Hill, which does demonstrate more range than Rogen at least. The only difference between wolf of Wall Street Jonah hill and money ball Jonah hill is the drug scenes. Also try to name one of the characters that Jonah Hill played. You can’t. It’s all just Jonah Hill.

I feel like Scorsese really likes Jonah and wanted him to finally have a lead role, all of Jonah's other roles have a seething anxiety which is compelling but not sure if it will work here.

Interesting. Gotta say I have a hard time seeing Jonah Hill as Jerry, but maybe he can pull it off and with Scorsese directing, that's not nothing.

If only it wasn't on Apple, but with the history, maybe it is appropriate.

Scorsese made the only great Netflix movie so I'm not worried about it being better than Apple's other stuff. My impression of Garcia's temperament is that it is very different from Jonah's previous roles

For sure. Who knows how that might pan out, I mostly think of Hill from comedic goofy roles, and Jerry wasn't like that all that much. So, for I know Hill might actually be real Dead fan, I've never read that or noticed it, but it could go along way towards a solid depiction.

But I found this in a different news article

Executive producers are Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Trixie Garcia and Eric Eisner.

That's very promising.
