I belong to a group of people that offers firearms training and have encountered several local people on this subreddit that have expressed interest in firearms training and time after time people show up wearing clothing that blatantly expressed their political orientation. For frick's sake you must know that the majority of range owners/members do not subscribe to your political beliefs. You need to learn how to blend. Wearing a hat with the sickle and hammer on it is fine in any other context but you need to acknowledge that sometimes it's ok to not be a walking billboard for your beliefs. I almost lost my range membership over some moron telling the owner that he was considering joining antifa. I know for a fact that this range owner is extremely conservative but we are on great terms because the only thing he knows about me is that I like guns and that's all he needs to know about me. There is a time and a place for expressing your liberal ideology and the range is not it.

I would recommend asking your students to wear neutral clothing, then, when you go to the range. I mean yes, I absolutely subscribe to the "blend in" philosophy in most areas of life, but a lot of people, especially young folks, are very identity driven and thus want to be recognized as part of one tribe or another.
It's just human nature. So maybe make it a requisite of your course, to leave political wear at home.
Yeah then there's people that literally can't "blend in" no matter what.
As a visibly queer person going to these ranges it takes 1% effort to throw an American flag on my gear bag and mumble about muh democrats suddenly no one suspects a thing. Often times as long as they think you're at least on the same level of being “pro gun” as them they don't care about the differences. We are at a massive disadvantage in these spaces and need to be smart. You don't owe these people the truth.
